DOCTORS' DAY

BIG DAY FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS!!!!

Almost half of the year 2020 is over now. We spent 75% of this 6 months in Covid pandemic and lockdown.

It’s July now!! July 1. If not for the lockdown, we would have seen some function in our medical college today.

Every year July 1 is celebrated as National Doctor's day in commemoration of birth of a great doctor in India.

In the twilight of July 1, 1882 in Bankipore (Patna), a couple witnessed the first cry of their last child(5th) - a charming male baby.

It's none other than Bidhan Chandra Roy [B.C.Roy] who later became a great physician, educationalist , our freedom fighter and the second chief minister of West Bengal in 1948 – 1962.

Here I will enlist some of the noteworthy achievements & novel characters of B.C .Roy.

✓ He is called the MAKER OF MODERN WEST BENGAL

✓ The first person to get F.R.C.S & M.R.C.P degree simultaneously.

✓ Received the highest civilian award of India – Bharat Ratna in1961.

✓ He used to give away even the most precious thing wilfully if someone was in need.

✓ “Whatever thy hands findeth to do, do it with thy might “ – This is the most inspiring quote for BC Roy

✓ Actually he got the PG seat in St.Bartholomew's Hospital after 30 attempts [ All 30 times got rejected because he was a South Asian ]

✓ He thought when people are healthy, then only they can fight against the Britishers.

✓ He insisted the youngsters to get freed not only from Britishers but also from fear, ignorance, helplessness etc..

✓He also treated Gandhiji during the fast movement.

✓Ironically he died on the same date in which he was born after 80 years on July 1 1962.

Today, we dedicate a separate day not only for B.C.Roy but also to every other heroes who wear white coats not just for pride but for saving every single life.

Doctors are toiling 24*7 for treating Covid 19 patients today. They sacrifice their joy, family, leisure time & all to save the nation, to ensure we come out of this pandemic.

Every Medical person takes the hippocratic oath but I see now every medical person follows it.

We are ready to treat patients even if they're brutally damaged like what happened in Tuticorin.

There are doctors from pediatricians to geriatricians – i.e. we cure people right from their birth to death.

History records great doctors who found the vaccine for many infectious diseases and eventually died out of the same infection.

Even today we see in our Chennai where Dr.Simon, neurologist died while he was treating Covid patients.

Though every year we get a new theme for Doctor’s day but how far the people reflect it or act to it is questionable

We are still tolerating violences against us but people are still continuing their violence.

Which we saw even last month where people denied the burial of Dr.Simon.

We would have chosen Red colour for our coat but it wouldn’t differentiate it from the patient's blood.

We would have chosen Green colour that signifies the life we help nurture and grow – But haven’t!

we would have chosen Orange too to show the vitality we restore to people’s lives – But still not!

We chose WHITE – because it reminds the purity & tells us that you trust us with your life itself!!!

We budding doctors learn medicine flawlessly to treat the general public endlessly!

We inculcate humanity on day 1 of joining the course ; follow it till we finish our practice.

Because each life matters!

There’s a popular adage, “God cannot be everywhere so He created mother’s” but we say “God has created us in His image to heal every sick individual to become brisk”

Let’s swear on this day to see every doctor as their healer ; do not humiliate them at any cost.
