MS Dhoni – a name which is loved by the cricket fans all over the world. A man of true passion, calm and kind personality and because of his attitude he is loved by the people all over the world. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was a former captain of the Indian Cricket Team and currently he is playing as a wicket keeper cum batsman. He is currently the captain of his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings. On his birthday today, I am sharing my views on why we people still love MS Dhoni?!

LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT HIS LIFE

MS Dhoni was born on 7th of July 1981 at Ranchi, which was then in Bihar and now in Jharkhand. His father Pan Singh Dhoni worked as a pump operator in MECON. MS Dhoni has a sister Jeyanthi Gupta and a brother Narendra Singh Dhoni. During his earlier days, he used to play badminton and football. He is a big fan of Australian Wicket Keeper Adam Gilchrist and his childhood idols were his fellow teammate Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood Super Star Amitabh Bachchan and singer Lata Mangeshkar. He was working as a Travelling Ticket Examiner from 2001-2003 at the Kharagpur Railway Station. Dhoni is married to Sakshi Singh Rawat, his schoolmate at the DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir on July 4th 2010. He has one daughter named Ziva who was born on 6th of February 2015.

THE REASONS WHY WE LOVE MSD

1) PILLAR OF TRUST

Once there was a myth in the hearts of many fans of Indian cricket that if Sachin gets out, then the team will also lose. Some fans who were watching the matches on TV they even would switch off the TV and they start believing that India will lose today because Sachin didn’t play well. Fans who were watching the matches in the stadium, some even leave the stadium if Sachin didn’t play well or got out early. These things began to change after the arrival of this man MS Dhoni. The people started to have faith in him. They started to believe that even if all the other batsmen fail at the other end and MS Dhoni is at the grease, they will have a hope that MS Dhoni will lead the team to glory. Whatever may be the score, how much high pressure game it can be, we started believing that if MS Dhoni is at the grease, then the Indian team still will have a chance to win at game at any impossible conditions. The one such example of a game is the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal game between India and New Zealand. Even after the failure of Rohit, Rahul and Kohli, the whole country believed that India could win that match because of this man MS Dhoni. He has been the Pillar of Trust for all the Indian fans over these years.

2) THE WAY HE REPLIES TO HIS HATERS

MS Dhoni has faced a lot of criticisms and controversies during his earlier days because of his performances. He didn’t get depressed by it at all and began to reply for his controversies through his performances with his bat and his gloves. One such innings through which he silenced his critics was during an ODI match between India and Pakistan which was held at Visakapatnam, where he scored 148 runs off just 123 balls.
He has faced a lot of criticisms for his captaincy also. He answered these critics through his remarkable performances on the field.

1) He was named as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup held at South Africa in 2007. The team was comprised of full of young and promising players like Rohit Sharma. Everyone thought that India will get knock out of the tournament in the group stages itself. But MS Dhoni and his team silenced the critics that are raised against them by winning the World Cup by defeating Pakistan in the finals by 5 runs and by defending bigger teams like Australia, South Africa and England.

2) He came back to lead Chennai Super Kings in 2018 after a two year gap because of the ban faced by the CSK team for 2 years. Everyone didn’t have a hope that CSK will qualify for the playoffs because of their squad in which most of the players in the squad were aged above 30. But, Dhoni built a winning combination with such an experienced side and put on a dominant performance throughout the tournament. CSK were crowned as the champions of IPL 2018. The credits all goes to MS Dhoni.

3) ICON OF INSPIRATION

MS Dhoni is admired and loved by all of his teammates. He always helps the young cricketers and guides them by directing them towards the right path. Even the foreign cricketers also admire MS Dhoni because of his kind nature. He has gloomed many cricketers and transformed them into World class talents under his captaincy. The most important such thing was promoting Rohit Sharma as an opener during the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Now, Rohit Sharma is the most successful opening batsman playing right now. And another thing to be mentioned is that he also captained and guided his senior players in the team like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh etc., Many young cricketers admire and get inspired from MS Dhoni’s skills. It is evident from the fact that if any player chooses his favourite XI of all time, they will mostly have MS Dhoni as a wicket keeper batsman in their team.

4) COOL ATTITUDE

MS Dhoni is called fondly as “Captain Cool” by his fans because of his calm and composed captaincy. He never gets angry in the field. He always guides and encourages the young players playing around him. Being a cool captain is a big strength for MS Dhoni. That also makes him different from the other captains around the world. The fact of being cool is evident from the things he does on the field. One such incident is that of giving the final over of 2007 ICC T20 World Cup finals to Joginder Sharma. India went on to win that tournament and Dhoni was praised for his calm and composed nature. He never gets depressed after losing a match and never felt like jumping with attitude after winning a game.

5) CAPTAINCY RECORDS

MS Dhoni is well known around the world because of his captaincy records only. Many records for a captain are still held by Dhoni only. He is the only captain to win all the 3 ICC trophies (ICC World T20 2007, ICC World Cup 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy 2013). He is the player with most appearances as a captain of his team. He has lead India to Number 1 spot in Test Cricket. He also led India to numerous famous victories. He is also one of the successful captains in the history of IPL. He led CSK to 3 IPL trophies and 2 CLT20 trophies.

6) DHONI-CSK BONDING

Dhoni joined CSK during the inaugural season of IPL in 2008 for INR 6 crores. Since then, he has been an integral part of the team and the city Chennai. The people of Tamil Nadu and cricket fans started treating Dhoni as their own land’s son. He is fondly called as “Thala” by his CSK fans. Still, there are a lot of people in Tamil Nadu who watch IPL only for the reason that the captain of CSK is MS Dhoni. Every time when Dhoni get to play in Chepauk, a huge crowd of people will come to see him and support him even it is a practice session of CSK team. Always there will be goose bumps moments when Dhoni come and play in the yellow jersey for the CSK team. He has guided CSK to many famous victories. Till now, Dhoni loves Chennai IPL team more than anything else.

7) THE MOST MEMORABLE INNINGS IN INDIAN CRICKET HISTORY

“Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent strike into the crowd! .....
These are the words screamed by Ravi Shastri in air after the most iconic moment of any cricket fan from India. In that match, Dhoni promoted himself up the order ahead of Yuvraj Singh and built a brilliant partnership with Gautam Gambhir and guided India to a famous victory. He scored 91 runs off just 79 balls in that thrilling final. It was the most celebrated day by the Indians in the previous decade which is April 2nd 2011. Sachin Tendulkar’s dream was achieved at the moment all because of this man Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was also awarded the man of the match award for his match winning performance.

CONCLUSION

MS Dhoni is a very great captain and wicket keeper for team India. As a player, he has many impeccable records like the highest strike rate in the death overs, the highest number of runs scored by a batsman batting at No. 5 or below, a world record of the most stumpings and the fastest stumpings and so on. But after that semifinal match, he didn’t play a single cricket match. From my point of view, he should be retired from the International Cricket in a proper and a grand manner. So I like to watch Dhoni playing for 3 more years from now until the next ICC Cricket World Cup. So, Dhoni fans must stay calm and wait for an electrifying performance from “THALA” Dhoni after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sachin fans had become Rohit fans.
Ganguly fans had become Kohli fans.
But Dhoni fans will stay as Dhoni fans…
NOW! THEN and FOREVER!

AN ARTICLE DEDICATED TO ALL DHONI FANS😊
HAPPY BIRTHDAY THALA MSD!!!
