But the real question is ,is it possible to use these things in real battles? “Yes” giggled the U.S. navy. Lockheed Martin's ‘Advanced High Energy Test Asset' system also called as ATHENA is a prototype weapon and is still a few steps away from being on a war-field. It is a close-in defence system to destroy missiles and aircrafts. The U.S navy promises several new advancements to this merciless killer before it is a complete weapon to be used. On the test done on 16th of May,2020 ,it successfully destroyed a unmanned drone for the first time in the sea.

Yes, the major disadvantage with lasers could be the power source, they consume lot of power to be brutal enough to destroy warships and aircrafts. This limits the possibilities for the use of these weapons anywhere at the ease. It needs a power of nearly 60KW for it to produce a single beam, which could be potentially helpful in lighting up a house for 20 days. Solar energy be helpful in making this possible but by increasing the range and intensity of the beam ,one needs a power source which is way much powerful and efficient than solar energy, Can someone make a guess? Yes, Nuclear power would be helpful in making this weapon lasts for a longer time in the combat field.

Although the lasers are highly complicated devices, but are as easy as to be controlled even by teenagers. The control setup of these device consists of a single joystick without anyother complicated missionaries to aim and assist the laser beams. This helps anyone to easily operate the device. Infra red visuals provided by the laser helps in detecting the targets even in extreme dark and foggy conditions which could be an added advantage to the accuracy of these weapons
